Brief description
In cooperation with the Clean Cargo Initiative (CCI), this project advances sustainable operations in the maritime transportation sector. The CCI is the leading buyer-supplier forum and involves major brands, cargo carriers, and freight forwarders while reflecting around 80 percent of global container cargo capacity. The project promotes informational transparency and strives to reduce the sector’s environmental impact.
Project purpose
The project involves the Clean Cargo Initiative (CCI) and the Kühne Logistics University (KLU) with its Hapag-Lloyd Center for Shipping and Global Logistics Research Center. In exchange for unique industry performance data, which is provided free of charge, the KLU offers its expertise concerning sustainable transportation and data analytics. Outcomes are presented bi-annually to the CCI’s membership. Based on the provided data, the KLU project team tackles the following sub-research questions under the umbrella of fuel consumption concerning (i) What are the design and operational determinants? (ii) What is the impact of scope and scale in liner networks? (iii) How do market structures influence sustainable operations?
