Florian Cramer

Research Associate

Florian Cramer is a research associate in the KLU’s Research Group on Food Supply Chain Management. With his many years of practical experience in agri-food supply chains as a trained viticulturist, chef and wholesales clerk, Florian has a strong focus in food supply chains. After starting with hands-on experience as an apprentice, Florian started his (dual) studies in Retail Management while working at one of Germany’s biggest retailers, EDEKA. His work at EDEKA focused on purchasing and procurement of exotic fruits and vegetables. While continuing working at EDEKA, he started a Master of Science in Logistics. After finishing his master's degree, he decided to finally focus on research full-time by switching to employment as a research associate at the University of Bayreuth, at the Chair of Food Supply Chain Management. Thus, after concluding his seven years of experience in purchasing and procurement, Florian started his doctoral studies in May 2021 and joined KLU’s Research Group on Food Supply Chain Management one year later, in May 2022. Florian is particularly interested in short and alternative food networks and sustainable transportation. His research is mainly focused on the fields of operations research and operations management. For his current research he uses quantitative research methods such as simulation and optimisation methods to create decision support systems, however, he is also interested in multi-disciplinary approaches and qualitative research collaborations.
