Abstract
This talk aims to give young and junior researchers an understanding of how to do research and how to publish papers in good journals. In addition to providing detailed guideline on publishing papers, experience on how to find good research topics will be shared. Research examples will also be provided from a recent Theme-Based Research Project in ocean transport logistics sponsored by Hong Kong Research Grant Council that involves fourteen professors from four local universities plus two oversea universities.
Biography
Prof. Chung-Yee Lee is currently the Director of the Office of Institutional Research and Senior Advisor to the Vice President of Research and Development at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He was Chair Professor in 2005-2017 and also served as Department Head of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management in 2001–2008 at HKUST. Before joined HKUST in 2001, he was Rockwell Chair Professor at Texas A&M University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers in U.S. and a Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences. He has published more than 160 papers in refereed journals. His articles are cited more than 7,000 times by documents in Web of Science (with h-index = 45).
He received a B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering (1972) and a MS degree in Management Sciences (1976) both from National Chiao-Tung University in Taiwan. He also received a M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University (1980) and Ph.D. degree in Operations Research from Yale University (1984).
