Prof. Yasmine Rashed

Assistant professor

Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (Cairo-Egypt)

The port sector is closely related to the changes in the global economic activity and international trade. The global financial crisis in 2008 had a significant impact on the ports’ activities. Hence, the volatility and uncertainty of the global economy, and, consequently, of the maritime trade and port traffic impose a challenge to modelling and forecasting container throughput at the port level. Based on a combined approach of quantitative model and scenario analysis, a forecast of the container throughput until 2050 is provided. That provides a tool to support port stakeholders that rely on demand traffic forecasts to support decisions related to operation and investment.

Yasmine Rashed is currently an assistant professor in the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (Cairo-Egypt) and the head of  the transport logistics operation management department at the College of International Transport and Logistics. She obtained her PhD at the Department of Transport and Regional Economics- Faculty of Applied Economics at the University of Antwerp. She has a doctoral grant financed by BNP Paribas Fortis chair on transport, logistics and ports at the Department of Transport and Regional Economics. Her research focuses on quantitative transport economics in the maritime sector. She has done extensive research on port economics and applied her PhD thesis on the Hamburg-Le Havre range of ports.
She has obtained her bachelor degree and M.Sc. in Economics (2010) from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University. In addition, she has a joint Diploma in International Transport and Logistics by the AASTMT (Egypt), the Norwegian Shipping Academy and the Norwegian School of Management (Norway).
