In the rapidly evolving landscape of Fleet Operations, transformative technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) are revolutionizing the commercial vehicle fleet industry. This PhD project aims to leverage advanced technologies to optimize commercial vehicle rental services. The research is structured around three core projects. The first project focuses on utilizing IoT data to advance the vehicle configuration process, for example, shifting from reactive to predictive tire choice, aiming to improve tire lifetime and reduce operational costs. The second project explores the adoption of dynamic, data-driven pricing models, offering a win-win scenario for both service providers and customers. The third project addresses route optimization in intermodal transport settings to reduce fuel consumption and improve logistical efficiency. We employ machine learning algorithms and analyze IoT data to gain insights and develop strategies that effectively optimize commercial vehicle rental services. In the end, the project seeks to develop new guidelines for operational efficiency and innovation in the commercial vehicle fleet industry.
