The field of humanitarian logistics and disaster management faces unique challenges in both rapid onset disaster and slow onset disaster. Addressing these challenges requires a nuanced understanding of supply chain management and the effective coordination among stakeholders in various disaster scenarios, whether natural or man-made. Key aspects include information management, effective communication, and leadership, which play crucial roles in enhancing the effectiveness of disaster responses. A comprehensive approach that bridges the gap between immediate life-saving efforts and effective recovery strategies is essential. By exploring these dynamics, there is an opportunity to significantly improve the resilience, efficiency, and impact of humanitarian logistics and disaster response, ultimately aiding in alleviating human suffering and facilitating recovery in areas affected by disasters.

Vahid Khodaee started his PhD program at the Kühne Logistics University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Maria Besiou and Prof. Dr. Andreas Kilian Gernert in September 2022. His main areas of research are Humanitarian Logistics and Sustainable Operations.
Prior to the KLU, he received his master's degree in industrial engineering in Systems Optimization at the Sharif University of Technology, a highly regarded university in Iran. The title of his Master thesis was “Developing a Mathematical Model for Optimum Drug (Vaccine) Distribution of Infectious Diseases in Epidemic Conditions: The COVID-19 Case Study”. Vahid received his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) in September 2019.
