Double Silver for KLU Student Kjell van de Bergh
Over the last few weekends, KLU students Kjell van de Bergh and Maxi Breuell competed in the German University Championships. In Cologne, Kjell took home two silver medals in rowing; in Berlin, Maxi took home 32nd place at the Golf Championships.
KLU sports scholarship holder Kjell van de Bergh (Der Hamburger and Germania RC) competed in no less than three disciplines, taking home silver in the men’s pair category with Zeno Robertsen (Uni Hamburg/Der Hamburger and Germania RC) and silver yet again in the men’s quadruple with Zeno Robertsen, Tom Kiesel and Patrick Hofmockel (both from the ARC Würzburg). In singles competition, he came in at a solid sixth place. “I’m very happy about winning two silvers. It was a great event and an outstanding feeling to not only represent KLU and my club among such high-caliber competition, but to take home second place, not once but twice,” said a visibly pleased Kjell van de Bergh at the end of the meet in Cologne.
In contrast, Maxi Breuell (GC Treudelberg) was less than satisfied with his own performance at the German University Golf Championships in Berlin. “Unfortunately, I got off to a poor start and couldn’t really manage to get back on track. You’ll have competitions like that sometimes. But of course, I’m not very happy with the results, since I know I can do much better.”
KLU is an official “Partner University of Professional Sports” and partner to both the German University Sports Federation (ADH) and the Olympic Center Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein. As part of this cooperation, KLU offers both a targeted scholarship program for athletes at the national league level and tuition reductions for these athletes. In addition to financial aid, flexible and individual solutions are available to help students reconcile their studies with professional sports.
