Ulysse David

PhD Candidate

Ulysse David joined Kühne Logistics University as a PhD candidate in September 2025, under the supervision of both Prof. Dr. Gordon Wilmsmeier and Prof. Dr. Johannes Meuer. Under the MSCA grant project POTENT (Ports as Energy Transition Hubs), his research will focus on governance structures to foster energy transition and their impact on ports’ productivity and efficiency.

Prior to commencing his PhD, Ulysse graduated with a master's degree in mechanical engineering from INSA Rennes, and a master's in political science from Sciences Po Rennes, institutions affiliated with the University of Rennes. During his studies, he completed an exchange at the University of Ljubljana to gain knowledge on energy systems and transition, before completing two master's theses related to energy issues. His research combined engineering expertise on flywheel energy systems to store electricity produced by wind turbines, before focusing on socio-economic aspects of energy transition with a thesis on the regulation of biomethane production firms in the French feed-in tariffs context.

In addition to his academic curriculum, Ulysse has worked as a research analyst in a French renewable energy company (Energ'iV) and an innovation cluster in terrestrial mobility. He gained valuable expertise on energy transition and innovation trends in the transportation sector.
