Manuel Pimpão is a PhD candidate at Kühne Logistics University (KLU) since January 2025. His doctoral research focuses on predictive process monitoring and artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on early risk and delay detection in complex, real-world event streams. His work explores sequence modeling, robustness and explainability of machine learning systems, as well as rigorous evaluation of early-warning performance under operational constraints.
Manuel holds a Master of Science in Data Science from Technische Universität Chemnitz. His master’s thesis, conducted in collaboration with Volkswagen AG, focused on the development of a machine learning-based algorithm for the automated detection of pre-brake time intervals in vehicle sensor data. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon.
Alongside his PhD, Manuel works as a Machine Learning Researcher at Volkswagen Group Components in Wolfsburg, where he develops and evaluates predictive models for monitoring large-scale industrial processes.
