Helga Cup 2025

Strong Wind, strong women

From June 13–15, KLU had the opportunity to participate in the world’s largest women’s sailing regatta -the Helga Cup- with our very own KLU team on the competitors list.

The KLU Team

A team of five women proudly represented KLU at this year’s regatta — and their hard work paid off: they finished 17th out of 61 teams. A fantastic achievement, and one we’re proud to celebrate!

Special thanks to our team:

  • Pia Conradi (incoming BSc student, national squad sailor – ILCA6, KLU sport scholarship holder)
  • Alva Feilcke (BSc, 4th semester, national squad experience – 49er FX, KLU sport scholarship holder)
  • Charlotte von Hardenberg (BSc, 2nd semester)
  • Mabel Petschallies & Paula Broneske(guest team members)

Pia Conradi, who will begin her studies at KLU this fall, shared that although she comes from a solo sailing background, the Helga Cup was a “super cool event” and a great opportunity to work together as a team.

Paula Broneske added: “It’s something very special and empowering to sail in an all-female regatta, especially in a sport traditionally dominated by men. Events like this are so important to inspire young girls and show that women can perform just as well.”

The team also expressed heartfelt thanks to Johannes Dietz, KLU’s Sports Affairs Manager, who supported the athletes throughout the event. As Paula mentioned: “Without Johannes, we wouldn’t have been able to do it. From organizing to sorting team gear — his support made all the difference.”

Shared Values

The Helga Cup promotes values that deeply align with KLU’s mission: empowering women, celebrating visibility and encouraging modern leadership.
We were thrilled to be part of this year’s event — and we’re already looking forward to the next one!

We would like to thank the Pollmann Foundation for its generous support of the KLU team at the HELGA Cup, which contributed to our success in this tournament.

With around 70 teams and over 300 sailors from across the world, the Helga Cup is not only a major event but also one with huge international appeal. It’s an inspiring showcase of talent, determination, and solidarity.
