KLU can take you far! Discover the career paths and life choices of our KLU Alumni in our new Alumni series. Here, our alumni tell us more about their way after their studies at KLU – and how their time here influenced their future paths. As a Senior Group Product Portfolio Manager, Thomas Mohr (MSc Management, 2015) oversees a vast range of consumer health products distributed across Europe. He thrives on cross-functional collaboration and is especially proud of two achievements: building a structured, company-wide product development process and being able to identify emerging consumer trends early, and turning it into successful product concepts across diverse markets. For him, combining strategy with tangible outcomes is what makes the job rewarding.

Name: Thomas Mohr (LinkedIn)
Position, Company: Senior Group Product Portfolio Manager, Euro Vital Pharma GmbH & EVP Group
Degree program: MSc Management 2015

What was the best part of your degree program?

What really stood out for me at KLU was the international environment, which really helped shape how I work today. Being in classes with people from all over the world opened my perspective and prepared me for the global nature of today’s business world. I also appreciated the small class sizes and close contact with highly respected professors. It was easy to engage in discussions and dive deep into topics like management, logistics, and even psychology. KLU gave me both a broad foundation and room to pursue my interests. During my semester abroad in Lugano, I explored healthcare-related courses, which aligned with my background in health economics and my interest in the sector. I originally chose KLU because it offered a mix of academic rigor, internationality, and an intimate learning atmosphere. Looking back, it was the combination of people, structure, and opportunity that made it such a valuable and formative experience.

What is the best part of your job? Is there a project you are especially proud of?

I love that my role sits at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and cross-functional teamwork. I manage a large and diverse product portfolio, including dietary supplements, medical devices, cosmetic products, and food products (around 1,500 ready-to-sell products), and coordinate with teams across Germany, Spain, the UK, and Slovakia.

As an experienced Product Portfolio Manager in the Consumer Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Industry, I focus strongly on strategic portfolio development, market analysis, and sustainable growth. What I especially enjoy about my role is combining analytical thinking with a structured approach and translating market trends into products that create real customer value. I really thrive in interdisciplinary environments and enjoy leading complex projects from the initial concept all the way through to successful market launch.

One project I’m especially proud of was introducing structure to our product development process. When I joined, there were many great ideas but no clear path to evaluate or implement them effectively. I introduced a gatekeeping and evaluation framework that is still in use today. It helps assess market potential, feasibility, and strategic fit before development begins and has significantly improved cross-functional collaboration.

Another highlight has been developing highly relevant and trend-driven product concepts based on market insights, for example, building a nutritional gummy range for multiple countries in which we operate globally. Seeing products move from idea to launch and knowing I helped coordinate the process across development, procurement, sales, quality, supply chain management, and finance is extremely rewarding.

What are the biggest trends you are seeing in consumer healthcare right now?

Our company acts as a B2B service partner (Private Label & CDMO), supporting customers from the drugstore, discounters, food retail, pharmacy, and branded company sectors in developing innovative health and wellness products. In addition, we manage our own international brands in consumer healthcare, sports nutrition, weight management, and healthy nutrition, which are marketed online and through international retail channels.

One major trend is the rise of wellness and longevity. People are more focused than ever on healthy lifestyles, and they want products that support their long-term well-being. We’re working on creating offerings that make longevity more accessible, and for the first time, teams across all our business units are collaborating on a unified product vision. That’s a big step forward culturally and strategically.

Another important trend is the growing popularity of nutritional gummies, such as multivitamin gummies, collagen gummies, and creatine gummies. What started as a niche format has evolved into a major global category that continues to grow rapidly across different age groups and markets.

On the sustainability front, it’s becoming a must-have. We’ve established a dedicated ESG department, and we’re rethinking everything from raw material sourcing to packaging. The pressure is coming not just internally, but from customers too. It’s a challenge (especially with global sourcing) but it’s a necessary part of future-proofing our strategy.

What do you advise to students regarding their future careers?

First off, don’t give up too early. I remember how tough the first semester at KLU was- adjusting to studying in English, the academic pressure, and adapting to a new level of expectations. There was a point early on when I thought about quitting, but I stuck with it, and I’m glad I did. That perseverance has helped me many times since. For new graduates, my advice is to follow your interests and try things out. If a path doesn’t feel right, change direction. But also know that getting your first job might be the hardest part. It takes persistence, patience, and a lot of applications. Even with a strong academic record, it can be tough to get your foot in the door. But once you’re in, things start to fall into place. So - keep going. Find your niche, trust your instincts, and stay open to learning along the way.
