Women, Power and AI: AI.Women Hackathon at KLU

300 Women, One AI Hackathon

Ideas took shape around every table, teams formed, prototypes were built and participants supported each other as they explored new tools and possibilities. Some had years of AI experience; others had never written a line of code before. According to the organizers AI.Women, it was the largest hackathon for women ever held in Germany.

From KLU Alumna to AI.Women

AI.Women is an initiative of Petra Vorsteher, founder of AI.Group. The idea for the hackathon came from KLU alumna Katharina Fiegen, who graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2023 and has been working with AI.Women for over two years. Her vision: to create a space where women could experiment with AI, learn from each other and turn ideas into something tangible.

For KLU, hosting the event was a natural fit. With its expertise in AI, strong links to business and innovation, and a growing community around emerging technologies, the university already brings together people who want to understand, apply and shape AI. Opening the campus to AI.Women extended that role beyond the university itself and created a space where the wider AI community could connect, exchange ideas and build together.

From Ideas to Applications

The 63 teams developed a wide range of AI solutions. The top three projects were Amtly, an AI assistant that helps people navigate German bureaucracy; SafeWay, an app suggesting safer walking and cycling routes; and Pocket CRM, an AI-powered tool that helps users keep track of the context behind their contacts and conversations.

More than the final pitches, the weekend was about the energy of building together.
