Season of the German Junior Sailing League Kicks Off in Kiel

The German Junior Sailing League (DJSL) launched its 10th season this weekend at the Kieler Yacht-Club (KYC) in Strande. Once again on board as a partner: Kühne Logistics University. The winners of the first of four events are from Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee in Berlin.

With excellent weather on the practice day and perfect conditions on Saturday – featuring a steady easterly breeze – the KYC provided ideal conditions both ashore and on the racecourse.

At the season opener, the young crews delivered exciting and closely contested races, once again reflecting the high standard and strong team spirit within the league. The top teams of the first event day put in particularly impressive performances, finishing on the podium as follows:

  1. VSaW
    Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee e.V.
  2. MSC
    Mühlenberger Segel-Club e.V.
  3. ASVW
    Akademischer Segelverein Warnemünde e.V.

This year, Kühne Logistics University (KLU) is once again a proud partner of the DJSL. Johannes Dietz, Sports Affairs Manager at KLU, commented:  “We are very pleased to support this unique platform for young athletes. KLU is committed to linking academic education with elite sport and supports ambitious sailors in successfully combining their studies with high-performance competition.”

Special thanks go to the organizing team of the Kieler Yacht-Club, led by Florentina Kraft, Moritz Gronbach, Francesco Kollig, Jonas Rohwer, Moritz Peitzner, as well as the many additional volunteers who made this event possible.

We would also like to thank all volunteers of the German Junior Sailing League, the umpires, and especially League Director Jocky Hellmich – it is a great pleasure to be a partner of such a dedicated and inspiring community.

Last but not least, a big thank you to Sven Jürgensen, whose excellent photography allows everyone who couldn’t be there to relive this fantastic season opener.

We are looking forward to the upcoming events of the 2026 season and many more exciting races at the highest level!

KLU is an official “partner university for elite sports” and a partner of the German University Sports Federation (ADH) and the Olympic Training Center Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein. As part of this cooperation, KLU offers a targeted scholarship program for Top athletes. In addition to financial support, there are flexible and individual solutions to help students balance their studies and competitive sports.
