KLU Takes 5th Place in the 22nd Alster President’s Cup of Hamburg Universities

KLU’s team showed strong coordination and determination and ultimately finished in 5th place. First place went to HFBK (University of Fine Arts Hamburg), whose team delivered a great performance.

With a competitive spirit in the air, breezy gusts of wind, and warm sunshine overhead, the regatta was accompanied by cheerful spectators, cameras ready to capture every highlight, and laughter from groups cheering for their teams. Each year, regatta rules require at least one university administration member per team. This time, Alva Feilcke, Immo Schmidt-Jortzig, Prof. Marianne Jahre, Jette Bacher, Gero Niemann, and Nina Bielau proudly represented KLU

Strong Spirit Among Competitioners

Technically, Universität Hamburg was the fastest this time. However, due to not fulfilling one of the core competition criteria-having at least one member from the university’s president’s office on board-they were ineligible to receive a prize. Their participation was recognized more as a demonstration of team spirit and sports enthusiasm.

One dramatic moment unfolded when a competing boat capsized due to a sudden strong gust of wind. Fortunately, the team members were able to quickly get the boat upright again and safely return to the shore. The enthusiastic KLU supporters onshore closely followed the race and cheered for their team. KLU had a challenging start, but in the final rounds, teams pushed harder to improve their position to a great 5th place.

The regatta was followed by the winner’s ceremony and traditional barbecue with all participating teams. The 22nd president’s regatta was once again an exciting event filled with unexpected twists and joyful moments.

Thank you all for your spirit and participation!
