KLU Student Katharina Bauer Shines Internationally

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our student-athlete Katharina Bauer. In January, Katharina helped lead the Austrian U21 Women's National Team to victory at the Indoor Hockey European Championship in Walcz, Poland. She then went on to help Austria win a silver medal at the Indoor World Championships in February.

The Austrian U21 Women's National Team triumphed at the Indoor Hockey European Championship in Walcz, Poland.

At the Indoor Hockey European Championship in Walcz, Poland, Katharina was a star player for the Austrian U21 Women's National Team, and was named Best Player of the Tournament. Her performance was amazing, especially a solo run she made in the final that led to a penalty corner, showing her great leadership and composure.

Then at the Indoor World Championships in February, Austria's women's hockey team got a silver medal in a dramatic final. They lost 0-1 to Poland, but they made the headlines by beating Germany – the tournament's favourite – in the semi-finals. Katharina Bauer shared her thoughts on the intense campaign:

"Of course, at the moment the disappointment of losing the final is still there, especially because we beat Germany in the semi-finals. But if we look back at the tournament with some distance, we can be proud: becoming vice world champions is a huge success and shows how strong we performed as a team.”

Her academic excellence matches Katharina's remarkable sports performance. As a scholarship holder and someone who has benefited from KLU's unique Sport scholarship programme, she perfectly balances high-level sports and academic achievement – and we're proud to support that combo here at KLU.
