On Wednesday, July 2, the scholarship holders of the Deutschlandstipendium from Hamburg met with sponsors, university presidents and other guests for the annual summer party on the Elbe terrace of HafenCity University Hamburg in perfect weather.
The event promotes networking among the students supported by the scholarship at the participating universities in Hamburg and the exchange between the participating universities.
After musical performances, the summer party invited students to enjoy cold drinks and food from the barbecue and to take the opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange beyond their own university. The aim is to create a sustainable network of scholarship holders and an incentive for further sponsors of the Deutschlandstipendium in Hamburg.
Program with musical highlights by students
In addition to a welcome address by the Vice President for Teaching at HafenCity University Hamburg, Prof. Karsten Schlesier, and the Vice President for Studies and Teaching at Universität Hamburg, Prof. Dr. Natalia Filatkina, the program featured musical contributions by students from Universität Hamburg and the University of Music and Performing Arts Hamburg.
Afterwards, scholarship holders and guests enjoyed the summer temperatures directly on the Norderelbe with a view of Hamburg's harbor, and even a brief rain shower could not interrupt the many good conversations and lively exchanges until after dark.
Summer party brings Hamburg universities together
Organized by the Hamburg universities' Deutschlandstipendium working group, the summer party brought together students awarded the scholarship from the University of Hamburg, Hamburg University of Technology, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, HafenCity University Hamburg, Hamburg University of Music and Drama, Bucerius Law School and Kühne Logistics University.
The Deutschlandstipendium
The Deutschlandstipendium supports students regardless of their income with 300 euros per month. Half of the amount is financed by private sponsors such as companies, foundations or private individuals, the other half by the federal government. Since the first scholarship holders were accepted in the summer semester of 2011, the number has grown to over 600 sponsored students in Hamburg in the 2025/26 funding period.
When awarding scholarships, the universities not only take into account outstanding grades, but also voluntary commitment and overcoming obstacles in the course of one's life. This holistic understanding of the concept of achievement in the Deutschlandstipendium enables young talents to have educational opportunities regardless of their social background.
