A "Perfect Match" - Hapag-Lloyd Foundation Supports "Deutschlandstipendium" at KLU
Honoring outstanding achievements, promoting young talent, supporting science and research: The aims of the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation fit perfectly with the unique funding model of the Deutschlandstipendium. Selected students receive financial support, half of which is provided by the state and the other half by sponsors such as the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation. In our interview, Saskia Egger, Managing Director of the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation, talks about the reasons for their commitment and the first meeting with "their" scholarship recipients.

How important is social commitment for the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation?
Saskia Egger: "As a company-related foundation, we see our commitment as an important investment in the future viability of society. Our self-image is reflected in the targeted promotion of science, culture and social issues, with a focus on Hamburg, the seat of our founder. As numerous as the projects are and as diverse as our partners are, the foundation's entire funding program is based on a common denominator: we understand, promote and enable education and training, art and culture, science and social participation not as an elitist luxury, but as an important part of life.”
Why did the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation decide to support the "Deutschlandstipendium" in particular?
Saskia Egger: "Education and knowledge are the most important resources of any society and should not depend on the financial means of the parents. By supporting talented and committed young people, the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation wants to contribute to equal opportunities and equal access to higher education for all.
What's unique about this scholarship is that it is financed in equal parts by private sponsors and the state, and that it takes into account not only excellent academic performance but also social commitment.
Recognizing outstanding achievements, promoting young talent, and supporting science and research: These are all important cornerstones of our foundation's work. Our commitment to awarding the Deutschlandstipendien is therefore a 'perfect match' with the purpose of our foundation."
Why did you decide to support KLU students?
Saskia Egger: "In addition to providing financial support, the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship also aims to strengthen the links between business, academia and young scientists, and often also offers the opportunity to establish contacts with potential employers and to become involved in a network of sponsors and alumni. By supporting students at KLU, the Foundation aims to contribute to the training and promotion of highly qualified specialists for the logistics industry. After all, the best young academics are a key location factor for Hamburg."
You recently met some of the scholarship recipients in person. What did you take away from the meeting?
Saskia Egger: "The main idea behind this scholarship program is to support social commitment and help people overcome biographical hurdles, in addition to promoting outstanding academic performance.
This academic year, we have had the privilege of getting to know three impressive young people who not only excel academically, but also impress us with their social commitment and personality.
We sincerely hope that by awarding these scholarships, we have been able to give "our" scholars a small boost to prepare them for the challenges of the future and to give them the opportunity to play an active role in shaping it. After all, well-educated young people are the most valuable investment in the future."
