Jenny Hoobler: "Can we encourage greater interest in leadership? Positioning leadership development."

Abstract
Jenny will share some ongoing experimental work she's been doing with Astrid Homan at University of Amsterdam on how we might position leadership development to encourage greater interest in leadership. This research explores the attractiveness of women-only versus mixed gender leadership development training and the framing of development programs based on individual differences.
Bio
Jenny M. Hoobler (PhD, University of Kentucky, USA) is Professor of Human Resource Management at the Nova School of Business and Economics. She is the Academic Director of the Leadership for Impact Knowledge Center. Her research interests address issues related to the challenges and consequences of diversity and inclusion in organizations, particularly focusing on women’s careers. She is also a scholar in the areas of work and family intersections and abusive supervision. Her research on these topics has resulted in 175 research-based publications and presentations, including 38 articles in refereed journals. She and her coauthors have received several best paper awards including the 2015 Women’s Leadership Center, Kennesaw State University, Best Gender and Management Paper of 2015 Award, a Web of Science “highly influential” (top 1% in the discipline) paper designation in 2018, and she was a Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research finalist in 2010. She is a South African National Research Foundation A-rated Researcher and was named a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) in 2021. Jenny was an elected officer of the Academy of Management Human Resource Management Division from 2008-2011, and has held various leadership roles in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Division. She will serve as Chair of the DEI Division in 2023-2024. She is currently Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology. At NOVA, she teaches Master’s level courses on managing a diverse workforce.
