Degree programs: MSc Logistics & SCM, MSc International Management, MSc Business Analytics and Data Science
Conflict Management as a key aspect can be elected as part of the managerial skills module. In this class, we cover different perspectives on conflict and how to handle it. In particular, we explore various sources of conflict and how to competently manage the different dynamics that affect different functions (superior, peer, or subordinate) differently. The students participate in role-playing to experience how they react in conflict situations themselves and which conflict resolution strategies they are comfortable with.
Having successfully participated in this course students will be able to demonstrate effective fundamental professional conflict management skills by...
• Be able to analyze conflicts, to differentiate between different types of conflicts and to understand the different conflict sources
• Adequately respond to conflict by learning how to manage conflicts when the students themselves are involved as a superior and by learning how to manage conflicts between other parties when they are not involved, i.e. as a peer or an external
• Work effectively in a diverse team environment to generate acceptable solutions for real-world business problems by understanding team dynamic via simulation of complex conflict situations or by solving questions of the assignments in small groups
