The final against Spain ended 1:1 after regular time and was decided in a penalty shoot-out, in which the German team claimed the world championship title.
Three KLU students in the world championship team
The German world championship team includes three KLU Bachelor students in their first semester. Jonas von Gersum plays for Harvestehuder Tennis and Hockey Club. Ferdinand Steinebach is a member of Der Club an der Alster. Johann Wehnert plays for Hamburger Polo Club.
At the same time, the Women’s Junior World Cup took place in Santiago de Chile, making it four KLU athletes competing at the U21 World Cups this year. Katharina Bauer, a KLU Bachelor student in her fifth semester, represented the Austrian national team. She plays for Harvestehuder Tennis and Hockey Club and had just completed her exchange semester in Chile before returning to the country to compete at the World Cup.
“These world championship titles show what is possible when talent, commitment and the right environment come together. Especially in sport, it becomes clear that we are able to pass on the Operations Mindset to our students. We are proud of our students and of being able to support them on their journey,” said Johannes Dietz, Sports Affairs Manager at KLU.
Between classroom and the field
Sport is an integral part of life at KLU. As a private business school with a strong sense of community, KLU supports students in combining academic ambition with athletic passion. KLU students are active across different sports, including field hockey, dressage riding, having recently won European Championship Gold, and sailing – for example through participation in events such as the Helga Cup or the German Junior Sailing League. KLU also features well-known sports personalities in its stories and podcasts, including Olympic hockey player Bili Ntuli, highlighting the close connection between high-performance sport, personal development and studying at KLU.
