KLU PhD Awarded Jungheinrich Foundation Scholarship

Jakob Heinen has done it ... the foundation selected him to receive a scholarship. For the next year with the possibility for a further two year extension, the ambitious KLU PhD candidate will receive support for his research.

Thomas Heyn, the chairman of the foundation, and Heinen’s mentor, Thorben Beckmann, ceremoniously presented the scholarship documents to Heinen today.

The Dr. Friedrich Jungheinrich Foundation was established in Hamburg in May 2004 with the aim of “promoting science, research and education in the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and logistics.”

Among its other activities, the foundation provides scholarships to young people who are especially qualified in a technical or scientific field, research projects, research awards and endows chairs. Heinen is researching the influence of 3D printing on production networks and value chains.  His doctor’s thesis seeks to address the strategic, tactical and operational challenges manufacturing companies face when introducing innovative production technologies such as 3D Printing.
