High demand for Girls’ Day at KLU: Understanding logistics, shaping the future
Hamburg, 25 February 2026 – There could be more female executives in logistics in the future. Places for Girls' Day at KLU on 23 April 2026 are already almost fully booked. Female students in Years 5 and 6 in Hamburg will gain insight into the world of logistics, with plenty of opportunities to try things out for themselves.

“We are experiencing tremendous demand,” says Professor Moritz Petersen, who leads the format at KLU. “At KLU, research and education focus on key future topics, and we are pleased to see this recognition. Practical experience is a top priority for us. During Girls’ Day, we show in an age-appropriate way how logistical systems work and why they are crucial for the economy, society, and sustainability.”
Women remain underrepresented in logistics
In Germany, women make up only about a quarter of the workforce in transport and logistics professions. While women hold around 29 percent of management positions across all industries, they account for less than 20 percent of the workforce in German logistics companies. At the same time, studies show that diverse teams work more innovatively and make better decisions.
Global supply chains are becoming more complex, sustainability requirements are increasing, and digital technologies are transforming the industry. At the same time, demand for qualified professionals continues to grow.
Alongside a playful logistics challenge, participants explore the HafenCity campus and exchange ideas with students about study paths and international career opportunities.
A day full of experiences
Under the motto “pack – plan – steer,” participants organize flows of goods, optimize transport routes, and make decisions under time pressure. In exercises such as a forklift race that demonstrates efficient goods movement, they experience how coordination, speed, and planning interact. This makes tangible how supply chains function and how they shape everyday life.
