Change Makers Dialogues: Drive Technologies

Insights from the February Change Makers Dialogue

A man stands at the front of a classroom giving a presentation. He wears a dark blazer and gestures with his hands while speaking. Several people sit at tables facing him, watching and listening. Laptops, notebooks, and water bottles are on the tables. The room has large windows and a bright, modern interior.

With nearly 70 participants, the February Change Makers Dialogues at Kühne Logistics University brought together industry leaders, experts, alumni, and students to examine one of the most pressing questions in sustainable transport: which alternative drive technologies will shape the future of heavy-duty logistics.

Representatives from Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, Volvo Trucks, MAN Truck & Bus SE, GP JOULE Gruppe, and eliso explored the evolving landscape of battery-electric vehicles (BEV), fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV), hydrogen solutions, and advanced biofuels. The discussion moved beyond technology comparisons to address infrastructure requirements, cost dynamics and total cost of ownership (TCO), policy frameworks, and the scalability challenges that will ultimately determine market adoption.

A special highlight was the experts’ participation in the Sustainability Logistics class within the Master's in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management program, led by Kay Simon. The direct exchange created space for critical reflection, practical insight, and meaningful dialogue between academia and industry, while reinforcing the importance of connecting research, practice, and future talent.

Our sincere thanks go to all speakers, partners, organizers, faculty, and students who contributed to this dialogue.
