Brian Hümpel started working at Kühne Logistics University as a Research Analyst for the Center of Humanitarian Logistics and Regional Development (CHORD) in October 2024. He initially joined the center as a Research Working Student in March 2024 while completing his Master’s studies.

Brian holds a Master of Science in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Kühne Logistics University, where he focused on sustainability and humanitarian logistics. His master’s thesis analyzed the environmental impact of humanitarian operations through a life-cycle assessment of personal protective equipment. During his studies, he also spent a semester abroad at Royal Roads University in Canada, specializing in international business and intercultural studies.

Brian’s professional experience bridges freight forwarding and production industries. Notably, he worked as an Operations Manager at Frankfurt Airport, where he established a new site for his former employer, maintaining cold chains for critical medical goods and clinical trial materials. Additionally, Brian contributed to sustainable process redesigns and data-driven supply chain optimizations during his tenure at Jägermeister.

At CHORD, Brian focuses on advancing research into the environmental and operational dynamics of humanitarian supply chains. He actively participates in projects aimed at quantifying the impact of preparedness investments and interventions. His work emphasizes applying qualitative and quantitative methods, gathering insights from on-site and remote data collection, and contributing to academic publications and white papers.
