Team Spirit on the Move: KLU at the HafenCity Run 2026

More than 30 alumni, students, Ph.D. candidates, and staff members came together to represent KLU at this year’s HafenCity Run on May 30. For the third consecutive year a KLU team spent a fun day strengthening connections across the university community through movement, community spirit, and social engagement in the heart of Hamburg.

Fun rooted in strong values

For KLU, the run is about more than crossing a finish line. It reflects values that shape university life every day: collaboration, inclusion, well-being, and engagement with the wider community. As a university dedicated to developing responsible leaders, KLU sees shared experiences like this as an important way to build trust, mutual support, and a sense of belonging.

The event also offered alumni a chance to reconnect with the university. “It’s always a great opportunity to see some fellow alumni, and spend time with newer students and the staff that so kindly treated me when I was a student myself,” said Veekshith Ravikumar, Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management alumnus.

Running for community and social impact

The HafenCity Run is known as Northern Germany’s largest corporate and charity run with around 20,000 participants this year. The event combines grassroots sport, team spirit, and charitable engagement, leading participants through Hamburg’s modern waterfront district without timekeeping or performance pressure. According to the event organizers and Hamburg Tourismus, donations support Hamburger Abendblatt hilft e.V., which funds charitable projects for children and young people in Hamburg.

KLU’s team supported as well the event’s Inclusive Hub, which promoted exchange, participation, and inclusive community building. In this spirit, the run connects closely to the principles behind the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly good health and well-being, reduced inequalities, and sustainable cities and communities.

KLU thanks everyone who joined this year’s team and represented the university on the course. Together, they showed how sport can create meaningful connections and contribute to positive impact in Hamburg.
