Abstract

ABSTRACT

The  research I conduct in the context of my PhD focuses on the topic of emotions in organizations. By focusing on followers' interaction with their leaders, it attempts to examine the role of leader distinct emotional expressions as sources of social information for their followers. This research presents three projects. The first project looks into how leader emotional expressions of pride, in this case authentic and hubristic pride, affect newcomer employee perceptions of  belongingness and in turn their performance, as an indicator of  adjustment in the new workplace. The second project examines the role of interest as an emotion expressed in interactions in the organizational context. In short, it attempts to examine the inferences that the experience of expressed interest inspires in the context of leader-follower interactions. The third paper is formulating to revolve around the independent effects that the processes of cognitive and emotional organizational socialization have for newcomer employees.
