Lecture

In an era defined by rapid technological change, global uncertainty, and shifting societal expectations, the question of how organizations can remain effective and adaptive has never been more pressing. This inaugural lecture explores the future of organizations through the lens of behavioral strategy and organization design, with a particular focus on how structural choices shape individual behavior and collective adaptability.

Drawing on experimental research, Prof. Dr. Franziska Lauenstein examines how organizations can be deliberately designed to foster learning, responsiveness, and resilience. Rather than viewing design as a static blueprint,  Franziska Lauenstein argues for a behavioral approach—one that recognizes the cognitive and social dynamics of decision-making within organizations.

Bio

Prof. Dr. Franziska Lauenstein is an Assistant Professor of Strategy at KLU. Before joining KLU, she was an Assistant Professor in the Strategic Organization Design Group at the University of Southern Denmark. She obtained her PhD at the University of Hamburg and had research stays at Bocconi University, Milan, and Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona.

Franziska Lauenstein’s research interests lie at the intersection of behavioral strategy and organization design & adaptation. She is interested in how organizations work and how we can make them work better. She particularly studies how organization design choices influence individual behavior and how this can help organizations adapt in changing environments. Franziska Lauenstein mainly approaches this, using behavioral experiments.
