KLU x AutoStore: How Our MBA Student Vanessa Schäfer Shapes the Future

KLU is a leading institution for logistics, management, and supply chain innovation. With a strong focus on practical, hands-on learning, we combine academic excellence with a unique Operations Mindset. This approach is particularly evident in the part-time MBA program, leadership and supply chain management, designed for professionals looking to take their careers to the next level without pausing their professional commitments. But what does studying at KLU actually look like? We sat down with KLU student Vanessa Schäfer, who is also a business development manager at AutoStore.

Vanessa, Why Did You Choose The MBA in Leadership and Supply Chain Management at Klu?
Vanessa Schäfer: KLU has an outstanding reputation to begin with – especially in supply chain management. That specialisation was a key factor for me, as I wanted to deepen my expertise and enhance it with internationally recognised, practical methods. Secondly, KLU offers a strong network of alumni and industry experts. Engaging with former and current students working in the same field provides valuable opportunities for professional exchange, networking, and future collaborations. Last but not least, it was important for me to study in an international environment alongside like-minded professionals facing similar challenges in supply chain management.
How Is the MBA Program at Klu Already Benefiting Your Career?
Its hands-on approach creates a direct link to the working world. By presenting case studies, we develop confidence and a routine for delivering high-level management presentations with impact. Another major advantage is that we gain concrete tools and methods to structure solutions even in high-pressure situations. This ability is already helping me in my daily work, allowing me to analyse complex problems efficiently.
How Does the Klu Program Expand Your Professional Network and Create New Career Opportunities?
The strong connections with companies, alumni, and fellow students in the industry create tangible career opportunities. A real-life example: Within my 16-person cohort, one of my peers has already transitioned into a new role – an opportunity that likely wouldn’t have come about without the KLU network. We also have regular exchanges with decision-makers and industry experts, which not only helps expand our personal networks but also opens up new perspectives and career development opportunities.
So Far, What Have Been Your Personal Highlights at Klu?
My biggest highlight at KLU is definitely the close-knit community within our cohort. With small class sizes and intensive study weekends, we build strong bonds – creating friendships that will last a lifetime. I’m also looking forward to the two international study trips.
